From its inception in 1949 to its thirteenth in 2019, the "National Art Exhibition" has spanned seven decades. These thirteen exhibitions not only encapsulate the artistic evolution of the People's Republic of China but also trace the trajectory and achievements of Chinese art since the latter half of the 20th century.

Today, the National Art Exhibition stands as the most authoritative and extensive exhibition in China's art community, featuring a distinctive national mechanism for art evaluation. It has nurtured a galaxy of artists for New China and promoted a historic transformation in Chinese art from traditional to modern forms.

For the fourteenth National Art Exhibition, Jiangsu Art Museum specially curates "Inspiration: Selected and Award-Winning Works of Jiangsu Artists from Previous National Art Exhibitions," an exhibition highlighting the exceptional achievements in art by Jiangsu artists since the founding of New China. This exhibition gathers notable works in Chinese painting, oil painting, print, and sculpture that were selected and awarded over the years, each reflecting the artist’s in-depth understanding of the era and unique aesthetic vision, capturing a profound expression of cultural confidence and the people's spiritual strength.

"Inspiration" is both a tribute to past accomplishments and a vision for the future. This exhibition of selected and award-winning works by Jiangsu artists from past National Art Exhibitions demonstrates Jiangsu Art Museum's dedication to excellence in collection, utilization, and services, as well as in research and revitalization of its resources. It also serves as a significant platform for encouraging diversity and innovation in China’s art creation, and stands as a testament to accomplishments in art.

As the host of the print section of the fourteenth National Art Exhibition, Jiangsu Art Museum revisits selected and award-winning works by Jiangsu artists from past exhibitions, broadening creative horizons of artists and presenting a comprehensive and multi-dimensional portrayal of historic transformations and accomplishments in the new era and new journey. This exhibition offers multifaceted and panoramic views of real life and the spirit of the people in their pursuit of a better life. It is a wellspring of artistic and cultural inspiration, bringing a renewed vision, expanded landscape and refreshed outlook to art creation in the new era, supporting the flourishing of Jiangsu’s art, and making a positive contribution to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
